THE BEST OF THE REST

Orphan Black #1 from IDW

Writer: John Fawcett & Others
Art: Szymon Kudranski

What IDW says:

One. Of a kind. Sarah’s life was changed dramatically after witnessing the suicide of a woman who looked just like her. Sarah learned that, not only were she and the woman clones, but there were others just like them, and dangerous factions at work set on capturing them all. Now, the mysterious world of Orphan Black widens, with new layers of the conspiracy being peeled back in this miniseries by co-creator John Fawcett!

Orphan Black co-creators Graeme Manson and John Fawcett expands on the saga with all-new material exclusive to the comic books!

Includes clues and Easter eggs for the highly anticipated third season, coming in April!

What we say:

It’s Clone Club time.

The hit BBC America series is making the leap to the four colored page, and you don’t want to miss it.  This comic will tie into and explore parts of the show that have not been revealed yet in any episodes, so fans of Orphan Black are gonna want to snap this one up.

Gotham by Midnight #4 from DC Comics

Writers:  Guy Fawkes
Artist: Ben Templesmith

What DC says:

Dr. Szandor Tarr is far from what anyone would consider social, but will it turn out he’s more at home with an insect monster savaging Gotham City than he is with the Midnight Shift?

What we say:

Come on! It’s the Spectre!  The Wrath of God will come down on you if you miss another issue of this series, which adds a touch of the supernatural to the Batman Universe and returns one of DC’s most enigmatic and powerful characters .

Fawkes and Templesmith have taken us to a very different part of Gotham City.  One where Batman’s logic, detective skills, and rather robust method of crime fighting are not enough to keep Gothamites safe from what goes bump in the night.

Quantum and Woody Must Die #2 from Valiant Comic

Writers: James Asmus
Art: Steve Lieber

What Valiant says:

The fix is in – and award-winning creators James Asmus (Gambit) and Steve Lieber (Superior Foes of Spider-Man) are about to unleash a world of hurt on the world’s worst superhero mis-adventurers!

Quantum and Woody have been hyp-mo-tized! But why? And how did these two chuckleheads suddenly become the heroes and idols of millions? A sinister puppet master lays his cards on the table and activates his Manchurian Candidates. Because when the world’s worst superhero team swoops into action…Quantum and Woody must die!

What we say:

We already love Valiant’s loveable (well, tolerable) losers, and now one of our favorite artists, Steve Lieber is handling the art duties on their latest mini, so this is a must read this month for us!

Batman #39 from DC Comics

Writer: Scott Snyder
Art: Greg Capullo, Danny Miki

Back up feature
Writer: James T Tynion IV, Scott Snyder
Art: Dustin Nguyen

What DC says:

“Endgame” part 5. The Joker is back! The penultimate issue of the Clown Prince of Crime’s horrifying return! Plus, in the backup story, the inmates and Mahreen finally learn the truth about The Joker!

What we say:

Since the launch of the New 52 there has been one thing you could count on.  Scott Snyder was going to deliver on Batman.  And he’s done that, alright. Now he’s got the Caped Crusader in an Endgame with his greatest foe, the Joker.   “This is the end of us. This is it. This is the last Joker story of Batman and Joker.’ Joker is moving on, is what Joker would say. So it’s really the end of the game played between the two of them.” Snyder told CBR a few months back.

D4VE #1 from IDW Comics

Writers: Ryan Ferrier
Art: Valentin Ramon

What IDW says:

Primetime TV; mortgages; traffic jams. The robots conquered earth, wiping out all life in the galaxy, but nothing changed. Meet D4VE, the greatest robot war hero, now trapped behind a desk at a soul-sucking day job. Can something, somewhere snap him out of this slump? This is D4VE’s mid-life. Crisis.

Featuring a cover by Saga artist, Fiona Staples!!

What we say:

We are slice of life meets the absurd comedy.   We all want out of our dead end jobs, and want to return the glory we know we are destined for.

We are also suckers for a great robot.   R2-D2, K-9,  The robot from Lost in Space, Data…   D4VE looks like he’s gonna fit right in with those guys.

Aquaman #39 Aquaman #39 from DC comics

Writer: Jeff Parker
Art: Paul Pelletier, Sean Parsons

What DC says:

Aquaman’s mother is alive – and she wants him dead! Welcome to the family reunion from hell!

What we say:

If you haven’t figured out just how badass the King of Atlantis is yet, well you better figure it out quick, because with his upcoming appearance in  Batman v Superman, everyone is going to be saying they were Aquaman fans since way back.
