Get Your First Look at Vixen from SDCC15

 

The CW television network has released a trailer for their upcoming Vixen animated series, which will debut in August on their digital platform, CW Seed.

The series is the 2nd of 3 spinoffs from the network’s hit series Arrow, along with The Flash, which begins it’s second season this fall, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow which will arrive early in 2016.   The trailer (below) was first screen as part of the CW’s presentation at San Diego Comic Con this week.

 

 

Vixen_JLoA4Actress Megalyn Echikunwoke (The Following,The 4400) plays Mari McCabe, a young woman who gets more than she imagines when she inherits the Tantu, a mystical and powerful totem, that grants the wearer the abilities of animals, including the the flying ability of a hawk, the eyesight of an eagle, the speed of a cheetah, strength of a elephant, the agility of a spider monkey, rage of a lion, among others.

Vixen first appeared in Action Comics in 1981, although she was originally slated to get her own title in 1978, before DC Comics cancelled many planned projects in what has been called the DC Implosion.  She went on to appear as a team member in various incarnations of the Justice League as well as the Suicide Squad.  The character also appeared in the DCAU series Justice League Unlimited where she was voiced by Gina Torres (Firefly, Suits).

The series takes place in the same universe as Arrow and the Flash, and characters from both shows will appear in the series, including Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Barry Allen(Grant Gustin) and Cisco Ramone (Carlos Valdes)

The series is currently scheduled for six episode, and debuts on August 25 on the CW Seed.
