Special Edition NYC 2015 Cosplay

This past weekend in New York City, ReedPop, the folks behind New York Comic Con, held their second annual Special Edition: NYC Comic Con, which gets back down to the source of it all – Comics! There were no studios telling you about their latest theatrical releases, or television adaptions.  There were no video game demos, or large multi-platform media product launches.  It was just comics.  The people who make comics, getting together with the people who love them to talk about comics. And of course, there was cosplay.  Lots of cosplay. We here in Geeksville love all cosplay, we … Continue reading

Arrow and Flash Sizzle in Back Half Trailers

The DC TV universe has rocked hard this year, with both Arrow and The Flash bringing both the noise and the funk hard, and neither shows any sign of slowing down as they head into the second half of their 2014-15 seasons. Wanna peak?  Here ya go Arrow Arrow always seems to be running from his past, and now it looks like it may finally have caught up with him.  Is his only escape in the arms of his greatest foe?  Who will Oliver Queen be, if he’s not the hero? The Flash Grodd, the Trickster,  the Atom, and some … Continue reading

DC Launching A Ton of New Titles With A “Broader Focus”

DC Universe will introduce 24 new tiles this summer, the most in a co-ordinated launch since the entire DCU relaunched as the New 52.   It’s being called “bold new direction for the DC Universe (DCU).”    Most of the new titles will be ongoing series, featuring some of DC’s most popular characters to have never had their own ongoing series before (Cyborg, Starfire, Midnighter)  and some haven’t had their own title since the 2011 relaunch (Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Doctor Fate) Only 25 of DC’s current titles will continue after the upcoming Convergence Event.   That means there will only be 49 … Continue reading

Arrow Adds a Little Help This Fall.

The DC TV Universe, like it’s cinematic cousin keeps getting bigger. Hot on the heels of announcing that Devon Aoki (Sin City) will be playing Tatsu Yamashiro a/k/a Katana this fall on Arrow, we now get word that former Man of Steel Brandon Routh will be playing Ray Palmer.  Ray Palmer is better known in the DCU as the diminutive powerhouse, the Atom. The Arrow version of the character will be “an unparalleled scientist and inventor”.  Palmer will be the new owner of Queen Consolidated, and a possible new love interest for fan-favorite character Felicity Smoak. Not exactly the … Continue reading

Special Edition NYC 14 – Day 2

Sunday was a gorgeous day in New York. Father’s Day brought families out to the Jacob Javitz Center for Day 2 of Special Edition NYC, a celebration of comics and comicbook culture.  It was a quieter day than Saturday.  Less cosplay, but I was very happy by the number of young kids there with their families. Looking forward to NYCC this October, which will be part of New York Super Week, 10/3 – 10/12. New York Super Week – a first of its kind pop culture festival. With different pop culture themed experiences happening in every corner of the … Continue reading
