Underneath the Cosplay with Gogo Incognito

Gogo Incognito - Underneath the Cosplay

We first saw Gogo Incognito at NYCC this year.  We spotted her from across the show floor, posing for fans.  She was very hard to miss.  She has so much energy, that her eyes lit up, and she had a whip.  She was cosplaying Catwoman, not an uncommon sight at Comic Con. This Catwoman however, wouldn’t have looked out of place starring in Cabaret. She was paired with the Riddler and Poison Ivy, and all three of them were amazing. After seeing them, I was trying to figure out how to produce the Broadway musical, so I could hire … Continue reading

NYCC 2014 – Day Two, Comics, Conversation, and Cosplay

Friday brings the first full day of programing at NYCC, as comic and pop culture fans from around the world descend on the Jacob Javits Center, and regular New Yorkers don’t even look up from their iPhones as they share a subway ride with Wolverine, Batman, and the Walking Dead to midtown Manhattan. A beautiful fall day in New York, and I spend the whole day indoors at NYCC attending panels both informative and entertaining.    I started the day with a spirited discussion, “Marry, Do, or Kill?  What will it take to shatter female stereotypes in comics?”  It was an … Continue reading

Underneath the Cosplay – KokoroKristin

It is so easy to forget that cosplayers might want to enjoy the rest of the convention, not just pose for pictures. I like to think I respect the time of cosplayers.  If they are talking with someone, or shopping on the show floor, I will try to catch them at a different time.    Lucky for us, KokoroKristin happened to look up from the back issue bin as saw me last spring at Special Edition NYC, that’s when I started up a conversation about the different runs on various Power Girl series, before I asked her if I … Continue reading

NYCC 2012 Day 4 – The Last Day, with Cosplay of the Day (of course)

Ah Sunday, that quiet restful day at the end of the week. Not at Comic Con!  Turn out look to be up on Sunday against last year, from my observation, with a lot of young kids and families on hand.  This makes me think a few things: Could NYCC be outgrowing the Jacob Javits Center? and if it is, where else in New York City could it move to?  Would it leave Manhattan? Would it go to Queens? or even (gasp) New Jersey? The economy, at least in the New York Metropolitan area, has improved somewhat, with what had to … Continue reading

NYCC 2012 Day 2 – The Day in Review, and COSPLAY of the DAY

And the crowds descend upon the Javits Center, on the far West Side of Midtown Manhattan (the MTA can’t finish the 7 train extension fast enough for me). Seriously there were a lot of you folks there today, and I got to meet a whole bunch of you! It was a crazy day with lots to see at Day 2 of New York Comic Con.   For me the highlights were meeting Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison (and talking Spamalot with him), Buddy Scalara’s Comic Book School (I attended the editor’s on editing panel) the Valiant Comics Panel (some very cool stuff … Continue reading
