Monday Morning Box Office Report – Oh Yeah! Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Blows Away All Competition

  Guardians of the Galaxy, from Marvel exceeded all expectations this weekend and set a record for an August opening with an estimated $94 million, well ahead of the pre-release expectations of $65-80 million.  It crushed all other movies, including Lucy ($18 million) featuring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman, as well as Get On Up ($14 million), the (Very entertaining) James Brown bio pic.  In fact, the combined box office grosses for the next 9 biggest movies this past weekend are less than what the Sci-fi/Superhero movie took in.   The opening set a record for August, easily besting The Bourne Ultimatum, … Continue reading

SDCC14 – Recapping the Marvel Movie News

Ant-Man Marvel released the first concept art for the movie. Several cast members for the film version of the latest Avenger were introduced at SDCC, joining Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym.   Corey Stoll  and Evangeline Lilly will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stoll will play Darren Cross/Yellowjacket, (One of the other identities used by Hank Pym as a member of the Avengers in the comics.) SDCC14 – Marvel To Launch Three STAR WARS Series in 2015

The first ever Star Wars comic was publish by Marvel back in the spring of 1977, and hit newstands almost 2 months before the movie arrived in theaters.  The series ran there until 1986, after 107 issues and 3 annuals.  For the past 20 years, the comic adventures set a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away were published by Dark Horse. Daredevil has found it’s Kingpin

More Netflix news today.  This time is it’s not a rumor that turns out to be a bit premature. Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series has cast Former Law & Order actor Vincent D’Onofrio as crime boss Wilson Fisk a/k/a The Kingpin.  With a diverse resume that includes Full Metal Jacket, Men in Black, and Mystic Pizza, the addition of D’Onofrio shows the Marvel’s commitment to quality to the direct to web series.  Fisk is being described as “a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his … Continue reading

Movie Review – X-Men: Days of Future Past

  I don’t think it would be too far out of line to say the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past might be the most ambitious comic book movie ever made, even more than The Avengers.
