New York Comic Con Returns! Day One at the Con

It’s that time of year, my favorite time in New York City. The weather gets a bit cooler, post-season baseball is getting into full swing, and hockey and college football both have returned.  Oh and it’s time for my yearly nerd pilgrimage to the far west side of Manhattan, to New York Comic Con.  As a bonus, the city has finally completed the 7 train extension, and now you can take the subway all the way to 34th and 11th, just a stone’s throw from the Jacob Javits Center (and the new station is is quite the site) Thursdays used … Continue reading

Special Edition NYC – Day 1

2014-06-14 15.05.41

Comic Con? In June? Well that’s what’s happening this weekend at the Jacob Javitz Center  in NYC. In case you hadn’t heard, Special Edition:NYC  is a celebration of all things comic book, brought to us by ReedPop, the same folks New York Comic Con, C2E2 and the Star Wars Celebrations.   If you don’t like crowds and want to get up close and personal with some of your favorite comic book writers and artists, then you should get to city ASAP, as tickets are available at the door. There is a very intimate feel, with  the majority of the con is … Continue reading

NYCC 2013 Day 3 – More Doctor Who, Valiant, and of course, COSPLAY OF THE DAY!

Saturday at New York Comic Con. Or as I like to call it,  the 8th ring of hell. Maybe it’s not the best thing for a mild agoraphobic like myself to be at, but I persevered. As you may remember, I was up late after the first day, due to an animal emergency.   I was still pretty tired, but I tried to get to the Con pretty early, because I knew I wanted to get to the Doctor Who panel.  It was mostly a fan gathering as no one listed to appear on the panel was directly connected to the … Continue reading

NYCC 2013 Day 2 – Comic Apps, Time Lords and Cosplay of the Day!

Day two at the 2013 New York Comic Con at the Javits Center on Manhattan’s west side was a long hard day for us here at Geeksville. After returning home after a great day one, Geeksville’s resident feline, Cat (yes we named him Cat) let us know in no uncertain terms that he was not well.   So after some judicious googling it was decided we had to run to vet, stat.   So at 4am we hopped Cat in a box, and headed down the 4 train to the Animal Medical Center on the Upper East Side.  It was a good … Continue reading

NYCC 2012 Day 4 – The Last Day, with Cosplay of the Day (of course)

Ah Sunday, that quiet restful day at the end of the week. Not at Comic Con!  Turn out look to be up on Sunday against last year, from my observation, with a lot of young kids and families on hand.  This makes me think a few things: Could NYCC be outgrowing the Jacob Javits Center? and if it is, where else in New York City could it move to?  Would it leave Manhattan? Would it go to Queens? or even (gasp) New Jersey? The economy, at least in the New York Metropolitan area, has improved somewhat, with what had to … Continue reading
