DC New 52 – One Year Later

new52 OYL

So, it’s been a year since DC Comics rolled the dice and rebooted their entire universe.  Now no matter what your opinion of the move, you can not argue with the results, from a business stand point.  DC sales are up. But after a year, what does DC have to show for itself?  What has worked?  What hasn’t?  What  books rocked, what books didn’t quite measure up? What were the surprise hits?  and where did DC just blow it? Let’s go back, shall we?  to the first week of September 2011, DC had just ended their latest Geoff Johns penned … Continue reading

The New 52 – Week 2 Rundown

After what I would call a very strong first week, I was excited what else DC had in store for us. Week 2 of the New 52 added 13 more new #1’s, and it was nice mix of characters who had title when the previous DCU ended in Flashpoint, and character that haven’t had a title in a while and few who have never had their own book. Exile’s Read of the Week 3/9/11

SUPERBOY #5 Story: Jeff Lemire Art: Pier Gallo Cover: Eddy Barrows, JP Mayer & Grant Alternate Cover: Francis Manapul Publisher: DC A $2.99 Comic It was a particularly good week for comics, and picking a Read of the Week was a difficult one. Exile’s Read of the Week 2/2/11

Secret Six #30 Story: Gail Simone Art: Jim Calafiore Cover: Cliff Chang Publisher:DC A $2.99 Comic Cross overs between two ongoing titles are tricky things, characters and plot threads that have been going, now you have to take into consideration another writer’s characteriztion and plot threads!  Now these things happen often in certain title families (the Bat/Super/Spider books, etc)  but sometimes they happen between two books that aren’t obvious pairings (I recall a Starman/Shazam cross over that seemed odd, but mostly for art reasons, not story reasons)  These issues are ever harder with team books.  When they are done wrong … Continue reading
